Their beauty and elegance can lead you to believe that creating a diaper cake is difficult and time consuming. But with proper instruction, making a baby shower diaper cake is simple and fun. Read on and learn how to make a beautiful diaper cake for your friend's shower.
First: Gather your materials
To make a diaper cake, you need 60 newborn diapers, pink and blue ribbon, about 60 small rubber bands, 6 large rubber bands, an 8-ounce baby bottle and a 4-ounce baby bottle. You may also want to add decorative baby items to put on the cake like pacifiers, bibs, stuffed animals, etc.
Second: Build your cake tier by tier
Start by unfolding each diaper and then rolling each diaper up tightly from front to back. Secure each rolled diaper with a rubber band around the middle; these are the building blocks of your cake. When you have rolled all of your diapers, you are ready to starting shaping the cake. Surround your 8-ounce baby bottle with a ring of diapers. Once this is done, secure the ring with a large rubber band. Then make a second and third ring of diapers around your baby bottle keeping each ring together with a large rubber band. You have now made the first tier. Start the second tier by repeating the process, but this time only surround the bottle with two rings. Make your last tier by placing the 4-ounce baby bottle on top of the 8-oz bottle. Then repeat the previous process, only making a single ring of diapers. You now have a three-tier cake with the end of a baby bottle sticking out of the top.
Third: Decorate your cake
Now you can decorate your cake by placing pink and blue ribbons around each tier. This is also your chance to get creative by adding any other baby-related decorations, such as diaper pins, rattles, pacifiers and booties.
