Designing Your Own Baby Shower Invitations

Traditionally, a baby shower includes baby-themed games, a deluge of gifts and banished husbands. Today, this is still a popular option, but many hosts are planning more diverse baby showers. The first thing to do is decide what type of shower you are hosting and design the invitation.
Make it scrapbook worthy
One of the first things to do for a baby shower is to set the style for the invitation the guest receives. There are a wide variety of invitation styles from which to choose when designing your own baby shower invitation. Get creative; the guest of honor often saves the invitation for memory's sake.
Gender neutral
This style of invitation is perfect when the baby's gender is a surprise. Photos of a newborn whether in black and white or color are a popular choice. Consider an invitation with a baby's tiny feet secured in a mother's hands which illustrates a magical motherhood moment. For something more playful, choose an infant under a baby blanket peeking out to get a glimpse of the waiting world.
Is it a boy or a girl?
If the gender of the baby is known, design a shower invitation to help guests choose gifts for the newborn baby. Find a design that includes a pink or blue theme, or try a less traditional color. Alternatively, you could choose a design based on the new parents' interests. Sports, animals and books are all popular choices.
Other types of showers
If the mom-to-be is having twins or multiples, consider designing an invitation with double baby carriages or multiple peas-in-a-pod. Another alternative is a couples' shower; this is the perfect way for both parent to celebrate their upcoming arrival. Whichever you chose, take lots of photos of the expecting parents.
When designing baby shower invitations, the possibilities are endless. Whether you decide to design a formal or causal invitation, make sure to include all of the important information. Provide an event description, time, address, RSVP date and contact information. It is also appropriate to include a short poem, gift ideas or information concerning the baby registry.
